Damascus Four Seasons goes ahead
The Syrian-Saudi Company for Tourism & Investment, the client for the 350-room Damascus Four Seasons hotel, was due to send out tender documents for the construction of the superstructure to 12 companies on 8 February.
It is understood that companies interested in the construction package include local, Lebanese, Syrian, Saudi Arabian and European contractors.’Out of 28 companies initially interested, 12 reconfirmed their interest’, says Claude Jabr, representative of Saudi Arabia’s Kingdom Holding Company, the majority shareholder in the Syrian-Saudi company. ‘Companies will now have 10 weeks to study the documents and submit their bids.’
A team of Germany’s Bauer and Lebanon’s CAT is pressing ahead with the construction of the hotel foundations, which are expected to be finished in late April. ‘Works are proceeding satisfactorily, so we expect phase two to start in May’, says Jabr.
The consultant on the estimated $ 100 million project is Beirut-based Dar al-Handasah (Shair & Partners).
