Claridge's Jones wins Roux Scholarship

Andrew Jones, 27, of Claridge's hotel in London's Mayfair, has beaten off five other aspiring young chefs to win the National Final of the Roux Scholarship.

Jones, who has been in the final twice before, was awarded the title last night at a ceremony at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park hotel in London.

Runner up was 23-year-old Adam Thomson of the Menzies Welcombe Hotel in Stratford-on-Avon, Warwickshire.

Six chefs competed in yesterday's national final. They each had just two hours to prepare and present their version of a classic Escoffier recipe, ballotines of poultry.

Jones's prize includes £2,500 in cash and several educational trips overseas.
