Compass buys Wimbledon caterer

Contract caterer Compass group has bought Facilities Management Catering (FMC), the official caterer of the Wimbledon Tennis Championship. FMC was set by Frank McCartney, former operations director at Sodexho subsidiary Town & Country. Town & Country had held the contract at Wimbledon for 50 years before McCartney set up on his own and won the contract from it.

FMC also operates contracts at the National Motor Museum, Marwell Zoo and Southampton Football Club, all in Hampshire, and the Royal Horticultural Society Garden Harlow Carr, Harrogate, and Kingston Communications Stadium, Hull. Compass would not comment on how much it paid for the company.

FMC’s last filed reports at Companies House show a pre-tax profit of £418,364 on a turnover of almost £12m in the 12 months to 31 December 2001. No-one from FMC was immediately available for comment.
