More Americans head to UK

Americans are beginning to fly again, according to the latest figures from the government's statistics office. In September, there were 14% more visitors from North America in the UK than was the case in the same both last year.

This helped boost the overall level of visits for the three months to September 2003 by 2% overall and by 1% overall in terms of the amount spent.

Visitors from Western Europe during September increased by 7% and although this was a smaller increase than that for North America, there were 1.35 million visits from this area compared to the total of 380,000 from North America.
