China: Tourism Revenue Surges

China’s tourism industry continued its robust growth last year, with revenue surging 11.4 percent to 556.6 billion yuan (HK$ 523.2 billion). The main factors behind the increase were long domestic holidays and an increase in foreign travellers.

The number of arrivals grew 9.9 per cent to 97.91 million. Overall foreign tourists, excluding visitors from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, rose 19.7 percent year on year to 13.43 million. The China National Tourism Administration revealed last month that the increase in foreign arrivals was helped by the slowdown in global tourism caused by the risk of terrorist attacks in other destinations.
