Arrest of 20 guests disrupts hotel party

At least 20 people were arrested during a Christmas party at Nyali Beach Hotel, Mombasa in Kenia, over various offences, ranging from drunkenness to violent conduct.

Some were handcuffed and kept away from the fun as they waited for the hotel management's decision. Others were locked up at the local police station for the rest of the day.

About 7,500 guests, most of them from upcountry, had turned up for the 'Noon Goes to the Beach' fun. The hotel's sales and marketing manager Catherine Nzioka, attributed the big turnout to the festive season and the popularity the event was gaining. She said: 'The crowd keeps improving each time the hotel hosts such a party.'

There were few artistes, but the revellers were treated to drinks and snacks at subsidised prices. They also interacted with friends and made new ones.

Unlike on previous occasions, there were quite a number of children during this year's event, most of them accompanied by parents or guardians.
