BHA welcomes shake-up of Scots tourist boards

The British Hospitality Association (BHA) in Scotland has welcomed the news that the country’s network of 14 area tourist boards is to be brought under the wing of national tourist board VisitScotland.

BHA Scotland Committee chairman Stephen Leckie said the BHA was please to see the reorganisation was in line with proposals it put forward during the consultation period.

‘They emphasised the need for the local delivery of tourism to reflect the national priorities of VisitScotland’, he said.’The BHA was in favour of substantial change at local level as there was too great a variation in the standard of performance, effectiveness and delivery across Scotland’s 14 area tourist boards.’

But Leckie said the BHA still wanted further discussions with tourism minister Frank McAveety on how the new VisitScotland network would be funded and on the future of tourist information centres.VisitScotland is also to get a £17m increase in its marketing budget over the next three years, a rise of nearly 30%.
