Hotel worker kills colleague with kitchen knives

A hotel employee who fatally stabbed his colleague with knives from the hotel kitchen has been arrested, police said. Masamitsu Asari, who quit the Sasebo Washington Hotel in Japan on Nov. 21, has admitted to the allegations of murdering colleague Yoichi Furuno.

Asari, 23, stabbed Furuno in the head and chest dozens of times on the roof of the hotel and in an emergency stairwell at about 5:30 a.m., Sunday, before fleeing.

Furuno died of massive blood loss from the stabbing, police said. Officers from the Sasebo Police Station questioned Asari and another associate of the victim who had both been spotted at the hotel early Sunday.

Furuno's bleeding body was found in the stairwell at about 6:20 a.m., Sunday. They are now questioning Asari over his motives for the crime.

Asari and the other man said they had stolen a case of beer bottles from a refrigerator in the hotel two hours before the murder.
